Arts Crafts

Location
Annex, Toronto

This is very small garden where space was not utilized to its maximum. The original shed was in a corner of the garden and cut the back space in half and projected well into the space eating up precious room where every sq. inch mattered. By shifting the shed to a thinner longer linear format along one side of the perimeter fence line we were able to open up the back considerably allowing the client more needed space for outdoor dining while maintaining ample storage. The client is a couple, one English and the other French which resulted in a blend of arts & crafts and French garden inspiration. The surrounding fence provides a stunning backdrop that defines the style of the garden. With its clean minimal square style that is inspired by the arts and crafts style, infused with a pale yellow/ Mediterranean blue color scheme evoking a sense of Provence. The client used a similar colour scheme in their house and this brought a beautiful indoor outdoor connection making the whole experience streamlined and feel bigger. The upper deck has been rebuilt and integrated into the yard in a much more cohesive way to better engage the house with the lower garden and to sit on and contemplate views of the garden.
