Front Entrance

Location
Rosedale West, Toronto

Challenge was to tie the old house together through modernizing it. Old walls remained and the facade went through a contemporary makeover. The house transformation had to be reflected in the landscape. Floating glass panels along stairs were used to keep things open and clean. Black stone was used to reflect on window treatment, and adding black stone gravel path was a way to create stronger entrance. Steel urns were used to pick up the material on entry columns. Column trees were added on west edge at the front in order to pull the height of the house down and carry it into the landscape. It further created privacy and delineation of the property. The design of the middle planter connected both properties together, establishing a unifying threshold.
